Zuly Yojana Paya Malagon, a 37-year-old farmer from the village of Los Laureles in the Municipality of Nátaga, Huila, is a dedicated leader in her community. As a past-president of the rural women's board in the area, she plays a pivotal role in advocating for the well-being and progress of women farmers. Zuly resides on a farm called "El Mirador," situated at an altitude of 1,950 meters above sea level, where she cultivates Caturra, Cenicafé and Pink Bourbon. El Mirador extends to 5 hectares (12 acres) and 3 of them (7 acres) are dedicated to grow coffee. Zuly has 2,800 coffee plants of Caturra, 8,000 of Cenicafe and 1,000 of Pink Bourbon. Zuly’s family is comprised by her husband Fabian Enrique Ladino Galindo and her daughter Natalia Ladino Paya, Natalia is now attending University in Neiva, the capital of Huila. Cenicafé semi - washed: After carefully picking only the ripe cherries, they all go through a first 24 hour fermentation before depulping. After depulping, a second fermentation process takes place in sealed drums (90 hours). After the anaerobic fermentation, the de-pulped cherries are washed with fresh mountain water to release them of their mucilage, the coffee is then taken to raised beds for at least two weeks to dry. Only once dried to around 11% moisture content the coffee as parchment gets released by Zuly to us. Arcadia takes Zuly's parchment from El Mirador to our milling facility in Neiva -a 3 hours drive- where gets processed and sorted to the highest standard available for washed coffees in Colombia: EP10 8-35. At “El Faro”. She has been Working with us since 2023, Zuly’s first export ever was done by Arcadia in 2024, this year we have brought to Ireland El Mirador’s entire production. As a female oriented community leader, Zuly is currently working with local producers to put together a women-only Regional Blend of washed coffee that we will be introducing to the market in the 2H26, we are extremely excited about the future we’re building together with her and extremely grateful for Bean Inspired being part of it.
